EXPERIENCE RACHEL COHEN MUSIC INSTRUCTION
I work to provide a space in which aspiring musicians can channel their creativity, develop their skills, and expand their musical repertoire.

RACHEL COHEN
Voice and Piano Instructor
"Listen. Can you hear it? The music. I can hear it everywhere. In the wind...in the air...in the light. It's all around us. All you have to do is open yourself up. All you have to do...is listen."
- "August Rush"
Our world is filled with music, and as inhabitants of this earth, that means each of us has musical potential, if we only find ways to unleash it. It is my passion and privilege to walk with my students as they develop their musical technique, performance skills, and creative abilities.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Grand View University, where I was part of the wind ensemble, choir, jazz band, and Kantorei.
I recently graduated from Augsburg University with dual master's degrees in Theology and Social Work. In the coming months, I plan to pursue full-time employment in my field while continuing to expand on music instruction. It is a joy to watch my students grow, and I am humbled by all that they continue to teach me each day.

PIANO INSTRUCTION
Children (ages 4+), teens, and adults
The piano is a versatile and timeless instrument. Piano instruction includes learning bass and treble clef notes which can be a great asset to those who play a wind instrument or sing. Learning to the play the piano gives a strong advantage to students who hope to play percussion instruments. Using current methods, students are taught sight reading, rhythm, piano technique, ear training, basic composition, and practice methods, and performance skills.
Younger students are required to know their alphabet and basic counting before beginning piano lessons.

VOICE INSTRUCTION
Children (ages +), teens, and adults
The human voice has been used to create music for centuries. As long as people have been able to speak, they have been able to sing. Whether you want to be able to give a stellar performance at karaoke or are hoping to one day audition for a Broadway musical, vocal instruction is a helpful step to take. Voice students are instructed in the use of solfege, rhythms, proper vocal and breathing technique, practice methods, and performance skills. Students are also exposed to and encouraged to work with a variety of music genres.
It is recommended that children seeking voice instruction be 7 years of age or older so that they can learn the best ways to exercise and care for their voice. Younger aspiring singers are encouraged to begin with piano lessons to build their music skills.

PERSONALIZED SERVICES
Combination Lessons, Basics of Music Theory, Audition Preparation
Many students choose to study both voice and piano. Others are interested in expanding their knowledge of music theory for classes or personal interest. Some students participate in local theatrical productions or music groups. In each case, I work to accommodate each student's individual needs and goals.
